I'm more than sure that seeing the thumbnail picture of this blogpost your reaction is: What the .... is this? My aim definitely wasn't to throw you in confusion, but I find this an important topic which shouldn't be taboo. Now, to make it clear, this isn't just about feminism, because a lot of male species might be rolling their eyes just at the word 'period'. I was reading articles about the protests just the other month and I knew straightaway that this is worth a blogpost and I'm sure as a gun that a lot of people in the eastern countries don't know exactly what happened in the UK. I hadn't known either before that there's an issue like this.
What is this about basically? Period poverty is a condition of those girls who cannot afford sanitary napkins. Girl, born in poor families, quit school because they cannot afford a tampon and feel ashamed of bleeding. Replacing that sanitary napkin with a piece of cloth is not a good solution either. Of course, back in history women didn't have sanitary towels, but HELLO! we are in the 21st century. In this technological, extra extra modern era, period poverty shouldn't be an issue. It is a bad omen of a country's poor standards of personal hygiene. This campaign and protest was kicked off by a 18 years old girl, just like me. She is trying to persuade, along with many other strong women, the government to provide free sanitary products for girls.
I was perplexed by the fact that such thing can happen in a developed and wealthy land, like Great Britain. Then, what's the matter with Romania? I imagine that here the situation could be worse.

Biztos vagyok benne, hogy sokan nagyot néztek a bejegyzés thumbnail képét látva. Semmit sem akarok összekuszálni, de ezt egy fontos témának tartom, ami nem kellene tabu legyen. Először is, ez nem valami feminista felbuzdulás, biztos egy csomó férfi egyed forgatja szemeit a menstruáció hallatára. Épp a múlt hónapban olvastam cikkeket a tűntetésről és kétségeim sem voltak arról, hogy az ügy megér egy bejegyzést, főleg, hogy a keleti országokban sok ember -valószínűleg- nem tud mindezekről. Én sem gondoltam volna azelőtt, hogy van egyáltalán ilyen társadalmi fennakadás.
Miről is van szó? Angolul period povertynek nevezik azt az állapotot, amikor szegény családokba született lányok nem tudják maguknak megengedni a szükséges egészségügyi betéteket. Ennek pedig egyik következménye, hogy annyira szégyellik vérzésüket, hogy kihagyják az iskolát. Még egy rongy darabbal való helyettesítése sem a legjobb megoldás. Persze, nem volt mindig a nőknek tamponjuk a történelemben, de a HALIHÓ! 21. században ez már nem kellene gondot jelentsen. Ez csak egy rossz jele annak, hogy az ország személyes higiéniájának színvonala alacsony. A kampányt és a tiltakozást egy 18 éves lány indította, vagyis velem egykorú. A kormányt akarja rábírni arra, hogy ingyenessé tegye a nélkülözők számára az egészségügyi betéteket.
Meglepő volt olvasnom, hogy ilyen problémák merülhetnek fel egy olyan előrehaladott és gazdag országban, mint az Egyesült Királyság. Akkor mi lehet a helyzet Romániával? Elképzeléseim szerint, még rosszabb.
Period is part of our feminity, which we should embrace. It might be gross at times, but is part of our being. I'm happy that I was born girl and everyone should be regardless of their social background. There's a petition that can be signed: https://www.freeperiods.org/petition/. I've signed it too, although it regards merely the UK. I strongly believe that what is happening there is a good example for the other countries to make their first step. Period is not something forbidden to talk about and to be ashamed of, it's part of your being.
So, be proud of being a bleeding woman and try to make every single woman realize the same thing!:)

A menstruáció része nőiességünknek, amelyet teljes mértékben magunkévá kellene tennünk. Lehet, hogy néha eléggé hányingerkeltő, fájdalmas perceket okoz, de ez is te vagy. Boldog vagyok, hogy lánynak születtem és más is az kellene legyen, szociális hátterétől függetlenül. Van egy petíció is, amit aláírhatsz: https://www.freeperiods.org/petition/. Én is aláírtam, pedig csak Angliára vonatkozik, de már ez is lehet egy jó példa a többi ország számára. A menstruáció nem egy olyan téma, amit el kell hallgatni, a lényed része.
Legyél büszke arra, hogy egy vérző nő vagy és próbáld meg nőtársaidat is bíztatni arra,hogy ugyanígy érezzenek!:)
